Fishing is what made Loreto famous, but the options do not end there.

The beaches of Loreto, as well as the nearby beaches of El Juncalito, Ensenada Blanca and Ligui offer excellent opportunities for scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing and kayaking. Another favorite spot for snorkeling is the Island of Danzantes, with its rocky cliffs and small coves. Some companies offer multiple day kayak trips up and down the coast, as well as day trips to islands of Carmen and Danzante.

The recreation complex located in Nopolo, built by Fonatur (The Government Tourism Development Agency), includes a 18 hole golf course, a clubhouse, 9 tennis courts and a stadium.

Boat trips to the surrounding islands is still another option:

- Coronados, with its turquoise waters and sea lion colonies
- Carmen, with its beautiful beaches and coves
- Danzantes, with its rocky edges and small coves, considered to be a paradise for scuba diving
- Catalina, with its unique flora and fauna which makes this island favorite destination of ecologists

Whale Watching is also possible January through March in San Carlos and Puerto Lopez Mateos. Boat trips are available for whale watching tours. However it should be noted that the grey whales are protected by the Mexican Law, and, therefore, whale watching is regulated. It is recommended that qualified whale watching tours are used and the regulations and the instruction of the tour guide is strictly observed.
