Hotel Casa del Callejon is located in the heart of the city of Puebla, just 30 minutes from the Puebla airport
and only an hour and a half from Mexico City. We are on a tiny side street in the quaint antiques section of town
known as Los Sapos. A short walk of 2 blocks takes you to the main square, or zócalo, and the famous Puebla
Cathedral. Our hotel forms part of a very large "casona" that is more than 200 years old.
The central patio reflects, in all of its details, the sensibilities and good taste of the Franciscan Friars
who occupied it, professing their Catholic faith into the very walls. Hotel Casa del Callejon's
excellent location permits the traveler to move easily in the Historic Center, which boasts many grand religious
structures, most notably the Chapel of Rosario and the Palafox Library. Just walking for a few blocks from Casa
del Calljon, you can see many examples of the world-famous Talavera tiles. This is what makes Puebla different
from every other city in Mexico.
The visitor to Puebla will also enjoy its excellent food, with the traditional festivals of mole poblano and chiles
en nogada, among others. Historically, you won't find a richer city. Puebla also boasts the forts of Loreto and
Guadalupe, now museums open to the public, where the famous battle of Cinco de Mayo took place in 1862. This defeat
of the French and their subsequent departure from Puebla, is one of Puebla's proudest moments.
Barrio de Los Sapos is also home to many of Puebla's best restaurants, as well as numerous shops and even the
weekend flea market, where local color can be enjoyed in both the regional delicacies and the unique items for sale.
The ruins of Cholula and Cacaxtla are only a short drive away and we can arrange tours for you, upon request.
