Todos
Santos is alive and well, eager for visitors and awaiting your arrival! For more Hurricane Juliette info and photos, visit this Todos Santos site. Hot off the press! Phone calls from Todos Santos to La Paz are no longer long distance! To dial La Paz from a land line, you need only dial 12-xxxxx where xxxxx is the 5 digit phone number in La Paz. To dial a La Paz based cellphone, you no longer can use 01-612 but must now dial 044-612 and the number or if you are fortunate, just dial the number with no other prefixes or area codes. Buena suerte! Recent additions: Todos Santos Art Galley Guide, Todos Santos Artist Guide and Todos Santos History, all with photos! And don't miss our Todos Santos Restaurant Guide with photos! Is it just our imaginations, or did the tourist season drop off very suddenly from mid-April to mid-May? US income tax time always has a dampening effect on tourism, and while spring break may pack them in down in Cabo, we always seem to slump around then. Maybe the "Todos Santos type" is reluctant to share the peninsula with all those hard partying college kids? Hopefully June and July will bring a moderate but steady stream of visitors before the heat of the "mini" El Niño kicks in this summer. We are hearing chismes (rumors) of all sorts of new businesses opening or planning to be open by the fall. Already we have a new art gallery between the state finanzas office and AmeriMex. And with luck, this fall will be the season that food finally returns to the ex-site of Café Ole and La Dolce Vita. The grapevine hints that we might see a new specialized medical clinic/gymnasium and yet another art gallery by next temporada. Meanwhile there is a resurgence of activity on the other side of town. The Message Center has moved to a new location in the Hotel California and is now giving tours of the building to all those starry eyed day-trippers from Cabo. Looking up at the top floor of the hotel, you can see that the "penthouse" has been painted on the outside. Will rooms be ready to rent again before we publish again? In Todos Santos, only time will tell. The March 17, 2002 LA Times full color quarterly travel insert featured a lengthy story about Todos Santos by travel writer and local resident Joe Cummings. That makes two classy west coast newspaper stories about town in less than 6 months. You can find a link to the LA Times Todos Santos story here. We survived the April Fools issue! We really appreciate the town's collective sense of humor and we are counting the days until next year's foolishness begins again. All you writers, sharpen your wits and pencils! Remember, the best that Todos Santos has to offer is online at: www.mexonline.com/todossantos.htm We want to know what you know about Todos Santos - email us at: elcalendario@todossantos-baja.com The zip code (C.P. in Spanish) for Todos Santos has changed. The new code is C.P. 23305. |
Dear El C: "We renew our subscription to El Calendario with pleasure! When it arrives, we fight over who gets to read it first. The winner gets to carve out a blissful half hour, shutting out the relentless realities of North America, and journey back to what is something akin to a favorite summer camp. The sunny huerta, the church bells, the taco stands. The dysfunctional and charming melodramas being played out against the Mexican backdrop. Reading El Calendario brings back the warmest memories. Don't stop! Don't stop!" Best - L. Taub Posada La Poza has completed all their rooms and the beautiful pebble-finished swimming pool nestled in the lush, tropical gardens overlooking la Poza lagoon and Pacific Ocean. Su Casa Property Management has moved to a new location on Degollado next to Super Pollo. Will the Hotel California sale close in our lifetimes? We still don't know if the deal has really gone down yet. Read all about the Hotel California legend here.
La Poza hill has been sold, again. But this time the deal is for real, or so it is said. Will this be the first Cabo-style resort to invade Todos Santos? Let's all hope it stays low key, whatever the developers decide to do. Better invest in bario San Vicente real soon! Rarely does a travel editor come to town without preconceived notions and just let Todos Santos show its true character. After many less than informative articles about Todos Santos in US newspapers, we finally got lucky. On November 4, 2001, the San Francisco Chronicle travel section highlighted Mexico. Todos Santos was the cover story. Travel editor Christine Delsol visited town for 5 days/4 nights in late October as we were recovering from Hurricane Juliette. Staying at the Todos Santos Inn and only revealing her identity the night before leaving, she wrote the best story about us since the 1993 Travel and Leisure article. ¡Muchas gracias! (You can find a link to this story at this Todos Santos site.) www.ArteTotal.com is a virtual art gallery promoting artists from Baja California Sur. Founders Petra and Jens Herrmann created the website to provide a free platform for fine artists to reach a broader audience. November 17 Mexican Area Codes change! To call the local Todos Santos number 14-50000 from the US you dial 011-52-612-14-50000. To call from Mexico you dial 01-612-14-50000. For a full list of the changes, visit this TelMex site. |
