  CUERNAVACA Shopping Guide

Crafts & Shopping
Cuernavaca has many shopping malls and department stores so you can do your shopping as you would back home. The local markets are also a good place to find crafts and handmade products. The huaraches in Cuernavaca are very popular, so if you visit Cuernavaca, don't forget to buy your pair of huaraches de cuero(leather sandals).

Tepoztlan "Sacred Valley"
The magnificent sight of the high and craggy Tepoztlan Sierra contrasts with the vegetation surrounding this town of quiet streets and large trees. Tepoztlan is located only 17 km. from Cuernavaca city and has been declared El Tepozteco National Park. It is an impressive archaeological area with historical convents from the dominican order like the convent of Natividad of the Virgin Maria. The building has beautiful plateresque style ornaments and chapels filled with gothic and renaissance architectural influences.

Crafts
Casitas de Pochote(houses of Pochote) are the most popular crafts from Tepoztlan. The Pochote is a common wood in the region and they used it to create crafty miniature houses that are the perfect souvenir to remember this unique town.
