LIFE CHANGING WHALE ENCOUNTERS
Welcome to Laguna San Ignacio’s premier locally owned and operated Ecolodge – Campo Cortez – located along the shores of San Ignacio Lagoon in the heart of Mexico’s largest protected area, El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve. Gray Whales have migrated here for thousands of generations for the purpose of giving birth and mating. Over the years these whales have come to be known as “friendlies” because of their notable behavior approaching our boats encouraging us to scratch, pet and even sing to them and their newly born calves. Over the years, this has become a regular occurrence only at San Ignacio Lagoon. This unique location is the only Gray Whale birthing lagoon in the world that has been left untouched by industrialization and modern civilization and has a local community striving to keep the lagoon a sacred and protected sanctuary. Our low impact Ecolodge is a sustainable way to come and experience this life changing event and interaction with the whales. We are one of the last remaining family-owned operators at San Ignacio Lagoon. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff have guided thousands of life-changing adventures.

San Ignacio Lagoon Gray Whale Tour Options
Meet 40-ton Gray Whales up close and personal as they make their annual migration to Baja, Mexico’s last remote and untamed breeding lagoon. San Ignacio Lagoon offers the most amazing of whale watching encounters on the planet. Mother Gray Whales give birth to fifteen foot long Gray Whale Calves and proudly show off their newborns to visitors on our boats only in the safety of the Gray Whale breeding lagoon. This behavior has been a growing and natural encounter at San Ignacio Lagoon and is one of those life changing experiences that planet earth has to offer.

Our remotely located solar-powered Ecolodge offers spectacular views of San Ignacio Lagoon from comfortable beach-front cabins at one of the lagoon’s remotest and scenic locations. We offer our own fleet of whale watching boats, and a local year-round resident staff that are some of the most knowledgeable caring residents that have a deep wealth of knowledge of the flora and fauna of this special region known as the Vizcaino Reserve.
